just like there are things you can do accidentally to crash cinema easily, there are things you can do in octane to make it crash easily. TBH I use octane all the time, I find it no less crashy than Cinema or redshift itself. The whole "octane is super crashy" thing is a holdover from people saying that when it actually was super crashy, and its a moniker it cant really seem to shake. Octane was also very crashy when I last used it. Just a couple of additional notes from someone who uses both as well: Not because the other isn't capable, just because your thinking and understanding work better with the first. Try both, one might click with you better than the other and you'll be able to get results with it that you can't with the other. Can be very fast if you know what you're doing, or kinda slow if you don't ).īut really the most important thing is down to your own personal comfort. Not such a nice node editor (it's either Xpresso or the new node editor which still isn't as nice as Octane's). Because it's biased you can do things like light linking which are impossible in Octane. Redshift: Much more complicated although they've simplified things a lot lately. It's fast for unbiased, but in my experience it's not that fast when trying to get things noise free and all you can do is either brute force it or denoise it with optix or whatever. Nice node editor, can be rented for quite cheap I think it's 20 Euro a month. Octane: very easy to use, not a lot of settings just a few quirky things you need to know like ray epsilon. Image Infoīear in mind they both operate on different principles (biased vs unbiased) so there isn't really such a thing as similar settings but: If you have feedback on the subreddit theme, feel free to send /u/Cryptonaut a message.
